Stainless steel Custom 455 is an advanced martensitic alloy in the area of precipitation hardening stainless steels. It combines corrosion resistance, one-step age hardenability, ease of fabrication, and yield strength that is thrice the strength of standard stainless grade 304.

The one-step aging treatment provides this material with very good high yield strength coupled with good ductility and toughness.

The following datasheet provides an overview of stainless steel grade Custom 455.

Stainless steel grade Custom 455 stainless has been machined successfully using the same methods used for other high-strength alloys like strong tool, work supports, slower speeds, positive cuts and good quantity of coolant.Welding

Stainless steel grade Custom 455 can be satisfactorily welded using the shielded fusion and resistance welding processes; however, oxyacetylene welding is not recommended.

Hot Working

Custom 455 stainless steel can be easily forged within the temperature range of 899-1260°C (1650-2300°F).

Cold Working

Cold working can be easily performed although Custom 455 is martensitic in the annealed condition.

Stainless steel grade Custom 455 does not respond to heat treatment; however, it responds to cold reduction.
